This is the first post on our blog, so we wanted to begin by bowing to you.
But what does Namaste really mean?
NAMASTE
The word Namaste comes from Sanskrit:
Nama means bow
As means I
Te means you
Together, Namaste can be understood as “I bow to you.”
Sometimes also expressed as Namaskar or Namaskaram, it is a respectful form of greeting rooted in Hindu tradition, commonly used in India, Nepal, and across the Indian diaspora. It is used both when meeting someone and when saying goodbye.
Namaste is typically accompanied by a gentle bow, with the hands pressed together in front of the chest, palms touching and fingers pointing upward, thumbs resting near the heart.
This gesture is known as Anjali Mudra or Pranamasana.
In a deeper spiritual sense, Namaste expresses:
“I bow to the divine within you.”
The real meeting between people is the meeting of minds.
When we greet one another with Namaste, it symbolizes the connection between two individuals — a silent acknowledgment of mutual respect, presence, and shared humanity.
The hands placed together in front of the heart represent unity.
The bow of the head reflects humility, gratitude, and openness.
It is a beautiful way of saying:
I honor you.
I respect you.
I recognize the light within you.
Namaste is more than a greeting — it is a reminder that we are all connected.
With love, respect, and gratitude.
